National Park

Semuliki National Park, located in the Bundibugyo District of western Uganda, is a unique ecological treasure at the intersection of East Africa and Central Africa. Covering approximately 220 square kilometres, this park is one of Uganda’s most biologically rich areas. It is characterised by a tropical lowland forest ecosystem that extends from the Ituri Forest in the Congo Basin.

Designated as a national park in 1993, Semuliki is part of the Albertine Rift Valley and features a blend of Central African flora and fauna uncommon elsewhere in East Africa. The Semuliki River borders the park, a critical waterway that flows into Lake Albert. Its location at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains further enhances its unique ecological and geological setting.

Semuliki is recognised as a haven for scientific research and environmental preservation, drawing attention to its rare species, geothermal phenomena, and cultural significance. The park is an essential conservation area, safeguarding habitats home to rare wildlife while supporting sustainable tourism efforts in the region.
