Birds

The park is a true birders haven in 1932 Semuliki National Park was gazette as wildlife reserve later upgraded to national park status in 1993. It is the only tract of the true low land tropical forest in East Africa hosting 441 recorded bird species in the forest including 23 Albertine rift endemic.

Namely African piculet, bates, nightjar, black dwarfs, black -collared lovebirds, cuckoo, yellow throated, napped pigeon, Congo spente, eagles’ chestnut among others, Semuliki sprawls across the flow of the semuliki valley on the remote side of the Rwenzori.

Wildlife

Semuliki national forest is a home to numerous central African wildlife species and the local population including the Batwa pygmy communities that originated from the Ituri region it is shelter to a further 120 mammals including several primate’s species such as baboon and chimpanzee as well as elephants, antelopes

Hippos are common along the Semuliki River as the crocodiles more than 300 species of butterflies have identified including 46 species together with 235 moths.
